Print design and art direction
I have over 25 years experience as a graphic designer, specialising in print and magazine design.
Since becoming freelance in 2020, I’ve been employed by various agencies, publishers and private clients – working in areas such as graphic design, branding, book design, brochures, newspaper layout and exhibition design.
My extensive experience includes creative thinking and planning, designing front covers and page layouts, commissioning photography and illustration, picture research, and passing for press / repro. I’ve regularly art directed photographers and organised products and props for photo shoots.
Previously, I worked for many years as Art Editor of Which? Computing magazine. There I led a major redesign and contributed to a rebrand, and had a long and close working relationship with editorial, production and creative artworking teams.
I am now available for freelance, temporary or contract design work, either homeworking or in the London or Essex areas.
I am also available for photography commissions, and a selection of my commissioned editorial portraits can be seen here.
I can be contacted by using the form on my About page, or via email at markjmassey@gmail.com.

Much of the work shown below is from my time at Which?, as well as some more recent work from a major rebranding, exhibition and print project for Kinetika’s T100 festival. Also included towards the bottom of the page are examples of shoots that I’ve art directed. Unfortunately I’m not not able to show much of my recent agency work, due to client confidentiality - these are available on request.
